The taualuga marks the conclusion of all things
Dance joyfully, gliding gracefully, it is beautiful
Move your body smoothly, with clear, deliberate gestures
Dance with dignity, for you alone are the best
All of Polynesia, I declare, the Samoan dance is the finest
If you wish to believe it, come and see for yourself
Its movements are ever-changing, never bound to one form
Not only gliding but with a body that sways with elegance
The dance belongs to everyone
Anyone who dances is equal, boys and girls alike
Dance with a smile, for this is a day of celebration
Show your joy in your Samoan dance
All of Polynesia, I declare, the Samoan dance is the finest
If you wish to believe it, come and see for yourself
Its movements are ever-changing, never bound to one form
Not only gliding but with a body that sways with elegance

I do not tell story to flatter (Punialava’a)

<pThis is not a story to flatter
The best is sweet candy
Awake in the early morning, prepare yourself gently
And quickly brew some coffee

(Take care) to not go hungry
Run swiftly with the bamboo tongs
Catch the flying bird with a snare
To ease my worries

Hold me close, embrace me
And comfort my heart
When I reached out, you embraced me
And gave me hope

Hold me close, embrace me
And comfort my heart
When I reached out, you embraced me
And gave me hope

Catch the flying bird with a snare
To ease my worries

Hold me close, embrace me
And comfort my heart
When I reached out, you embraced me
And gave me hope

A song about the last dance of a celebratory Samoan gathering – le taualuga – which is traditionally performed by a taupou, a woman of high status

This song is actually a medley – two songs strung together to lengthen the time for dancing. The second song is a classic by legendary Samoan artists, Punialava’a.
