Farewelling his sweetheart because they’re breaking up
Sau ia oe lo’u au
La’u pele sili
O le a ta tete’a

Ia fai lea ma vasa

Tofa la’u pele
Manatua mai lea o ita nei
Maligi o o’u loimata
ao ma le po (i le po)
O se mea faigata
o le moe ae mafua i tiga

(spoken)
There’s just one love in my heart,
always one name on my lips
Yours

Manatua mai lea o ita nei
Maligi o ou loimata

Maligi o ou loimata
ao ma le po (i le po)

Sau ia oe lo’u au / come my sweetheart
La’u pele sili / my dearest
O le a ta tete’a / we are about to depart from each other
ma fa’atofa / and say our goodbyes

O le alofa mo oe / the love for you
e le uma (e le uma) / doesn’t end
Ia fai lea ma vasa / let it be the deep ocean
i lo ta va / that lies between us

Tofa la’u pele / goodbye my dear
Manatua mai lea o ita nei / remember me here
Maligi o o’u loimata / with tears in my eyes
ao ma le po (i le po) / day and night

O se mea faigata / it’s a difficult thing
o le moe ae mafua i tiga / to sleep from pain (kinda like to cry myself to sleep)
Aue, lo’u fatu e / oh my poor heart lol
nei a pe / just might die

haha.. gotta love them tragic goodbyes *sigh*

Oh I never thought I would hear this song again, my gosh, to be very honest, Dave Parker is one of my favourite samoan singers and “Tofa la’u pele” is one of my favourite songs and still now. Those good old songs are still the best. Thanks to the people who created this website for all the samoan song lovers and to Jeff for asking about translating “The Tofa la’u pele” and the Hamogeegirl who translated it. Very beautiful lyrics, It touches my heart. I wish Dave Parker can still sing more songs like this song.

Lots of Gratefulness…
